Bill was so weak he couldn’t stand. He barely had the strength to hold up his head. It’s likely he’d been left without food for weeks and, when the RSPCA Inspector rescued him, he was completely emaciated.
He was found in a backyard, where he’d been left when his owners were evicted. The five-year-old Irish Wolfhound was in a desperate condition with ulcerated pressure sores on his body.
He had to be carried to the rescue vehicle and rushed into intensive care.
Bill's story happened in New South Wales, but we've come together with RSPCA NSW to share his story as we deal with cases just like Bill's every day.
No one knew if he could make it, but this brave dog clung onto life.

After five weeks in hospital, Bill went into foster care. Five months after his rescue, he was adopted – unrecognisable as the dog first rescued.
