What time commitment is required? At the Peninsula shelter, volunteers need to commit to either a weekly or fortnightly shift in the morning or afternoon on a weekday or weekend, for a minimum of 6 months. Animal-related roles work on a structured roster to ensure that we have adequate resources to care for our animals on a daily basis. Roles in our shelter and clinic are generally 4-hour shifts eg 8.00 am - 12.00 noon in the shelter, or 8.30 am - 12.30 pm and 12.30 pm - 4.30 pm in the clinic Hours required for other roles vary and can be discussed at the interview. Please note that we do not offer short-term, secondary school, community service roles or one-off volunteering opportunities for individuals or groups at Peninsula Secondary school or tertiary students can apply for our Work Experience Program and our Corporate partners can participate in our Corporate Volunteer Program. If I am interested, what is the next step to becoming a volunteer? The first step is to attend a Volunteer Information Session. This session will run for approximately 45 minutes and will go into further detail about the RSPCA Peninsula Volunteer Program and the roles available at our shelter. Bookings are essential and sessions fill quickly. Please phone 5978 6706 and ask to speak to Martine Guillemain between 9.00 am - 5.00 pm, Monday - Wednesday, to book in for the next Volunteer Information Session, and for venue details. What happens after the Volunteer Information session? After attending the Information Session, and you would like to become a volunteer, you need to book in for a 30-minute interview. Details of how to book will be given to you at the Information Session. If you are successful in the interview process you will be required to undertake animal handling training for all animal handling roles.
