RSPCA Education engages students using live animals, powerful visual presentations and real life animal case-studies.

The RSPCA Education service offers the following programs, which are all accompanied by teacher resources for download with pre- and post-visit activities included:



Pets, Pets, Pets

Prep, Year 1 & 2 (VELS Level 1 & 2) - excursion and incursion offered

Students will be encouraged to develop a basic understanding of the needs of animals and will learn more about the responsibilities involved in owning and caring for an animal. Activities include listening to an RSPCA animal story, meeting an education animal and delving into a bag of items related to the needs of animals. If students come and visit us, they will meet many of our education animals residing in our Barn.

Hooves, Paws & Claws

Prep, Year 1 & 2 (VELS Level 1 & 2) - excursion only

Students will be encouraged to develop a basic understanding of the needs of animals. Students will meet our farm animals, feed a cow, pat a sheep, get up close and personal with a pony, and look at the roles animals play in our lives. Activities also include listening to an RSPCA animal story, where the needs of farm animals are explored and compared with our own.

Creatures, Caring & Community

Year 3 & 4 (VELS Level 3) - excursion and incursion offered

Students will gain a deeper understanding of the needs of animals and the responsibilities required in caring for an animal. They will be challenged to think about animal welfare issues through discussion of animal case-studies. Students will gain further knowledge of the role of the RSPCA in their community, how the community is involved and what people can do to help. Activities include watching a visual presentation and meeting an education animal. If students come and visit us, they will meet many of our education animals residing in our Barn.

RSPCA, Roles & Responsibilities

Year 5 & 6 (VELS Level 4) - excursion and incursion offered

Students will be challenged to think about animal welfare issues through discussions on current RSPCA campaigns and animal case-studies. They will gain a greater understanding of the role of the RSPCA as a non-government, community-based charity and how they can become involved if they wish to. Activities include watching a visual presentation, meeting an education animal and seeing some behind-the-scenes action at our veterinary clinic via closed-circuit television. If students come and visit us, they will meet many of our education animals residing in our Barn.
