  RSPCA Education Centre
  10 year anniversary

The team at RSPCA Victoria is extremely excited to be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of our Education Centre on 26 June 2012. Its hard to believe it was 10 years ago that our Education Theatre and Barn opened its doors! All of us at the RSPCA would like to express our sincere gratitude to two very important supporters who have made these facilities a reality. These benefactors ongoing support also enable us to run our programs, for which we are very thankful.

The RSPCA believes that education is the key to shaping the community’s attitudes of the future. Animal welfare is becoming more and more mainstream and certainly a more important topic of conversation. Animal welfare is beginning to shape consumers choices of products and it is certainly influencing the practices of our primary producers. Changing attitudes are driving new behaviours.

Young people are the key to promoting this new animal welfare agenda. Our Eduction team have a very special role to play. Through their work with the formal education sector they ensure that animal welfare has its place in our school curriculum. At our Education Centre, school aged children get the opportunity to interact with animals, to have hands on experience which will leave lasting impressions on developing minds. Our Education service sees between 11,000 and 14,000 students every year, and our education officers visit 150 to 180 schools. The range of programs offered continues to expand and now reaches far beyond school classrooms.

Our Education Barn is now home to a variety of animals that are on hand to give Victorian youth hands on experience with animals. These include dogs, horses, cows, chickens, cats and rabbits. We also have Lucy the Goose, our self appointed protector who guards her fellow residents with unfaltering fervour.
