Entry requirements

  • This program is designed for young people still at school (Year 10, 11 or 12 students only to apply).

  • The practical work placement and assessment will include physical activities such as walking dogs, cleaning a variety of animal enclosures and feeding. Packing and unpacking food, grooming farm animals and companion animals, store-room work and paddock care.

  • You will be expected to have relevant numeracy and literacy language and communication skills and access to a computer and the Internet.

  • You must also be available over four weekend days to complete your work placement assessment.
     

Course duration (all attendance dates are compulsory)

Assessment

Participants will be assessed via completion of online tasks and skill demonstrations, i.e.,  written and verbal assignments, practical work, class participation and projects and or written tests. Four days practical work placement over four weekends must be completed and you must be assessed as competent in all areas.
 

Enrolment fee for 2010

$532 ($105 for students who hold a valid concession card).
 

Subjects

  • Work in the animal care industry.

  • Follow OHS procedures in an animal care.

  • Assist with general animal care environment.

  • Provide food and water for animals.

  • Participate in work place communications.

  • Provide basic first-aid for animals.

  • Rescue animals and provide basic animal care.

  • Prepare for, and conduct, a tour or presentation.

  • Provide information on companion animals, products and services.
