Horses for rehoming at the RSPCAThe RSPCA is looking
for loving new homes for 10 horses currently in its care.
These horses have come from unfortunate circumstances and we are
seeking experienced horsemen and women to continue their care. They
have undergone extensive rehabilitation that needs to be continued in their
new homes with the love and attention that they deserve.
The Inspectors, shelter staff and volunteers that have cared for these
horses over many months are looking forward to seeing the horses start new
lives in happy homes.
Details of each of the horses can be found below.
If you would like to submit an expression of interest, please
complete the form and email to
rehominghorses@rspcavic.org.au or fax to 9224 2507.
Over
the past twelve months, RSPCA Victoria has cared for more than 100 horses and
livestock who have needed extensive care and rehabilitation. The cost of
this care has been in excess of $200,000. As an independent animal welfare
charity which receives only 4% government funding, we rely on community
support to fund these vital animal welfare services.

Kismet
is a 3 year old miniature pony, mare. She came to us very malnourished
and underweight but is now a cheeky young lady. She needs an experienced
handler to teach her manners to ensure she is easily caught for routine
husbandry procedures. She enjoys the company of other miniatures at the
moment, and would be better suited to a home where she will have a
companion. Kismet has an old injury to her right hind leg which affects
her athletic ability but is not uncomfortable for her. She would make a
great pet and companion horse. |

Squiggles
is a 3 year old miniature pony, gelding. He is a very cheeky young man
that loves to play ‘keepings off’. Meaning you keeping off him!!! He
really needs someone experienced in handling and training to ensure he
learns manners for easy handling and management. At the moment he can be
difficult to catch, but once caught he is easy to handle. He would make
a fantastic companion horse and loves the company of other ponies.

Fuzzy
is a sweet old lady, who has come a long way from the skinny, moulting
(‘fuzzy’) mess she was on her arrival. Now displaying a healthy weight
and coat, her arthritis is the only thing slowing her down. Through
winter, Fuzzy really feels the cold and requires regular pain relief to
keep her happy and comfortable. Therefore, Fuzz would need to be kept on
her new owners property for daily monitoring and not an agistment
facility. New owners may wish to explore natural supplements to
complement her current form of pain relief. Her teeth are in relatively
good condition for her age and she is still able to enjoy hay, pasture
and hard feed. Fuzz would make a great companion horse as she is great
with both mares and geldings of any age or size. She is very easy to
catch and great for the farrier. |

Colonial Pursuit (also known as Snip) was
previously used as a Stud Stallion and really liked to strut his stuff
for the mares. He still has that ‘look at me’ persona. He was broken to
saddle by nationally known trainer David Simons who described him as
“naturally rounded and collected”. He is a compact horse that moves well
and will require an experienced horse person to re-educate him in their
desired equestrian field. |

Madam Tania, also known as 'Jean' is a real old
lady. She is in magnificent condition for her age and has lots of
personality. Some days she loves you and some days she just can't be
bothered. An aged broodmare, she can be a little stubborn. She is ground
broken, but does not like to be excessively handled. Jean likes the
company of other horses and is an independent old lady. |

Ned is a true
gentleman. His two favourite things are his food and attention. He has
seen and done it all, and though past his prime for riding, he would
make a great companion horse or children’s grooming pony. His bombproof
nature makes him great around people of all ages and experience, he is
easy to catch, great for farrier treatments and to float. He will load
himself!
Being old, Neds teeth aren’t as
good as they used to be, so he relies heavily on two hard feeds a day.
He is currently being treated for inflammation of his digestive system,
which will require ongoing medical care. New owners may wish to
investigate natural alternatives.
Ned is currently a nanny to a
newly weaned foal and is happily providing her with some much needed
company and confidence. He also regularly helps us with float training
other young horses on the property. |

Frosted Halo loves her food and loves a game in
the paddock. She plays keeping's off with the round hay bails, herding
the other mares away from they hay, she doesn't want to eat it herself,
she just loves the game! Frosted Halo has a very stubborn streak. She
likes interaction on her terms only and will need an experienced new
owner to teach her some manners. She does not like to be separated from
her herd, and is accustomed to being paddocked with other mares.
Previously she has been used as a brood mare. She loves to take the
other mares on a naughty run to prevent catching! |

Description: |

James
considers himself a bit of a stud. He loves the ladies. He's a bit
stressy and doesn't travel very well. James loves a scratch and the
company of others, but can be a bit of an old man. He has very worn
front teeth which means that he cannot pick at short grass. He also has
wave mouth so cannot chew his feed properly. James requires feed to be
no longer than 10cm so he can not be fed any type of hay, as this will
cause colic. James requires a minimum of three hard feeds a day and
access to medium - long length grass to ensure his nutritional needs
are met. James will need his teeth treated by an equine veterinary
dentist for the remainder of his life. James is accustomed to being
rugged. |

Description: |
|
Sparky,
is definitely full of spark. He is a real bossy bum and considers
himself firmly in charge. It's funny to watch him snort his nose at a 15
hand horse! He loves a scratch and will follow you anywhere on a
leadrope, you can walk him into a building! He has previously been used
as a lead rein pony but is not mouthed. Due to his spark he will require
an experienced horse owner. Sparky likes to be the boss of everyone he
meets no matter their size. However Sparky does have a tendency to
stress colic when transported. He has cute little rips on his ears from
a long standing injury that add to his appeal. |
