Bequest Animal Program
Who will care for my pets when I die or can no longer
look after them?
RSPCA Victoria recognises that many people are
concerned about their pets welfare if they are no longer able to care for
them personally.
That’s why we have developed the Bequest Animal Program. It is one way of
ensuring your pet receives the love and care it deserves, for life.
How does the Bequest Animal Program
work?
You can ensure that your pet will always have a warm
and comfortable home by completing a registration form and making a specific
bequest in your will. This is all it takes to ensure the ongoing care of
your pet.
Should the need arise, the RSPCA will assume full responsibility for your
pet and place it in a loving foster care home environment. The RSPCA will
oversee all veterinary care for your pet, and we maintain frequent contact
with our foster carers.
How do I include my pet?
Your pet must be registered with the Donor Relations
Office. When you register, you have the opportunity to provide us with all
the details that are necessary to provide ongoing care for your pet.
You can also provide us details like lifestyle, diet and the type of home
environment that will best suit your pet. This information is used to select
the best foster home for your pet.
Sometimes it is important that animals are placed by special conditions. You
may have two pets that you would like to remain together. Wherever possible,
the RSPCA will place your pets by the conditions nominated.
How do I make provision for my pet?
Just as a will allows you to make provision for your friends and family, you
can now extend that provision to your pets.
To include your pet in the Bequest Animal Program, you must include a
specific wording in your will. This allows the RSPCA to take full
responsibility for your pet. A minimum bequest amount will also provide for
the ongoing veterinary costs for the life of your pet.
Making or changing a will is not expensive or difficult, and a solicitor or
trustee company can help you.
