Build a positive future for animals

Thanks to the help of the community, we’ve been able to provide direct and immediate care to thousands of animals in need. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but sadly our job isn’t over yet.

Over 35,600 animals arrive at RSPCA shelters every year.
That’s 35,600 too many.

To reduce the number of stray, abandoned and neglected animals that rely on our care, we’ve introduced a series of preventative programs. It’s through programs like these that we can continue to improve the welfare of animals in Victoria.

From desexing to microchipping, here’s how your support can help create a positive future for Victorian animals:
Kitty care
Home sweet home
  Young at Heart

I ♥ Cats

It’s believed there are around half a million unowned cats in Victoria, so with the welfare of these animals in mind, we introduced a heavily subsidised cat desexing program.

This saw over 1,400 cats desexed across the state, which will help decrease the number of unowned cats living on the streets and entering our shelters in the future.

Just the thought of a lost pet can tie knots in the stomach of any animal lover.

We developed a free microchipping program for concession and healthcare cardholders which resulted in over 3,000 animals being microchipped across Victoria – so they’ll always be able to find their way home.

When it comes to adoption, senior animals are often overlooked. Our campaign promoting older animals as ideal companions led to a significant increase in the number of older pet adoptions – meaning these animals could spend less time in the shelter and more time settling into their new homes.

Aretha, pictured above, was given a second chance through this fantastic initiative.

Thousands of cats enter RSPCA shelters throughout Victoria every year. Our ‘I Cats’ promotion was Australia’s first ever cat fee waiver program, which promoted our feline friends as caring, loving and rewarding companions.

By raising the profile of cats we saw a huge increase in the number of cats adopted into loving new homes.

With every day that goes by, we hope that fewer and fewer animals will have to rely on our care. Together, we can help prevent the pain, loneliness and fear suffered by thousands of animals every year.
