12 unique ways to give

Every year we see thousands of homeless or neglected animals come through our doors who are all deserving of so much love. If you'd like to help the animals in our care but aren't sure how to go about it, we're put together a list of 12 unique ways you can give.

1. Everyone loves to get presents!

Donate toys or treats for shelter animals! Toys can relieve boredom, give environmental enrichment and make those waiting for their forever homes feel loved and cared for. Treats can also help neglected animals feel safe around humans, and are useful when learning new tricks. You can drop off toys and treats at any RSPCA Victoria animal care centre. Click to find your nearest location.
2. Search your home and your heart to donate goods

There are so many thing we use every day in a shelter that you may never have thought about. Donating a few of these items can make a big difference to the lives of animals, and give you warm and fuzzies too!

Items such as blankets, towels, newspaper, pet accessories and even laundry detergent are always needed. Click to find a list of items we can and can't accept.
3. Gifts in celebration

Each year we have so many reasons to celebrate; birthdays, Christmas, weddings, anniversaries, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and more! But do you ever get over receiving scented candles or bath salts that just clutter up your home? If you're the person that already has everything, ask your loves ones to donate to RSPCA Victoria in lieu of a present this year.

There are so many benefits to a donation instead of a present - for starters, it will save you faking the 'I love it' face! Plus, not contributing to the tonnes of unwanted 'stuff' that gets thrown away each year is much better for the environment. And last but not least, you'll get extra good feels knowing your special day is marked by changing the lives of animals in need.

4. Speaking of gifts....

What’s more adorable than watching a dog open their own present on their birthday or at Christmas?! Nothing, that's what! You can pick up some treats and toys to spoil your furry family members at RSPCA Burwood East, RSPCA Peninsula and Epping Animal Welfare Facility.

RSPCA Victoria also do gift cards, the perfect gift for any animal lover! The cards can be used for any RSPCA Victoria service or purchase, including adoption.

The best part? Proceeds from your purchase will go towards helping animals waiting to find their forever homes.
5. Love to shop? Then this one is for you!

Love shopping for items or gifts that are not only a bargain and unique, but that also help others? Shopping at an RSPCA Victoria op shop ticks all the boxes! You'll find quality clothing, books, bric a brac, homewares and so much more!

While you're there, consider donating some goods of your own and live with a little less clutter. As always, all proceeds go towards helping shelter animals.

6. Want to play with adorable animals?

One of the best and most direct ways you can help our shelter animals is by becoming a volunteer. Last year we had nearly 22,000 animals come into our care, and volunteers are a vital part of giving them the help and love they need.

7. Give love and care to neglected and homeless animals

Becoming a foster carer is one of the most generous and rewarding ways to help animals in need. Some of the animals entering shelters need a little extra help before they are ready for adoption and their new forever homes. They may be too young, unwell, recovering from surgery, or may need training to improve their behaviour.

8. Adopt don't shop

Thinking of adding a fur-baby to your family? Consider adopting an animal in need, and changing a life forever!

Visit our website
to meet all of the animals we currently have available, and read more about how to adopt from us!
9. Have a great day out!

We hold several fundraising events throughout the year, which are a great way to raise money for animals in need and also have a wonderful day with friends/family. Check out our Events page and keep an eye on our social media pages and website for more details as the events approach.
10. Like, love, share and spread joy!

An easy and entertaining way to help animals is to hop on our social media channels and get on board! Liking, commenting and sharing posts could mean that an animal finds their forever home, someone learns a new animal care tip or even donates to support our work!

11. Learn a new skill

There's nothing quite like learning a new skill to feel like a brand new person. Start off the year by taking one of our Education Short Courses, and treat yourself to a day out!

You'll be helping animals everywhere with your new found knowledge, and of course proceeds go towards helping shelter animals.

But it doesn't stop just there! Give an interactive and unique gift by signing up a friend or loved one to a short course. Get the kids involved with the school holiday programs or speak to your school about booking an excursion.

12. Other ways to give

There are so many small changes you can make that will mean the world to animals in our care. Become a Community Fundraiser and get yourself a wombat box, switch your banking to a Bendigo Bank RSPCA Mastercard, support our corporate sponsors, and more!
