Pet Information Sessions

In 2008 RSPCA Burwood is continuing with its successful Pet Information Sessions program. Run by Veterinary and Animal Behaviour and Training professionals, these sessions provide helpful advice to owners in a cost effective and timely manner.

If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulties with a pet, or you just want to learn more about your pet, then we recommend that you start here. In attending any one of our Information Sessions you will become a more informed, confident and responsible pet owner.

Clinical Information Sessions
  First Aid for Pets This session will provide valuable information you need to know to help keep your pet safe and act with confidence during an emergency.
  Nutrition Nutrition plays an important role in overall health and well being. This session provides you with a thorough understanding of appropriate nutrition for your pet.
  Senior Pets (over 7 yrs) Senior pets can be more prone to developing diseases. During this session you will be given some valuable tips about preventative health-care for your aging pet and how to recognise the early signs of diseases.
  Stop the Itching Senior pets can be more prone to developing diseases. During this session you will be given some valuable tips about preventative health-care for your aging pet and how to recognise the early signs of diseases.
Cat Behaviour
  Home Alone - Cats This session will explore how you can keep your cat busily entertained while you are away from home.
  Why Does My Cat...? Do you have a behavioural issue with your cat? This workshop style session explores what causes cats to behave inappropriately and explores what you can do to improve their behaviour.
Dog Behaviour & Training
  Choosing the Right Dog Are you looking for a dog to share your house, your spare time, your social life, your family and your lifestyle in general? Click Here for more information.
  Home Alone - Dogs This session will explore how you can keep your dog busy while you are away from home.
  Toilet Training Issues for Dogs Toilet Training problems in dogs can cause a breakdown in the relationship with your pet. Get to the bottom of your dog's toilet training problems and discover how you can enjoy having the company of your dog inside. 
  Barking Dogs A workshop style session where we work through determining the cause of the problem and then exploring what can be done to reduce the barking.
  Aggression on the Lead Does your dog bark at other dogs when you are out walking? We discuss effective techniques and equipment that you can use to control your dog and improve their behaviour.
  Boisterous Dogs Do you have a boisterous dog at home? At times, do you ever feel your dog is out of control? This session will provide you with advice on how you can begin to effectively control the mayhem.
  Dog Behaviour Become a ‘Dog Whisperer’ by learning how to interpret your dog’s behaviour. This seminar will reveal the secrets of canine language, helping you to better understand and interact with your dog.
  Fearful Dogs Is your dog unsure of strangers, bikes, noises, vacuums or going to the vet? This valuable session will discuss how to manage these dogs, to build their confidence and keep them safe.
  Dog Training For every dog owner. Whether you have a training difficulty or are looking to do some more training with your dog. This session will cover how dogs learn and effective techniques that will bring you more success with your training.
  Aggression This session will provide you with a better understanding of aggression in dogs, covering the triggers for aggression, what you can do to prevent it and what to do when a dog becomes aggressive.
  Separation Anxiety Does your dog get anxious when it is left home alone? This session will discuss what you can do to manage your dog’s anxiety, and start you on the road to achieving a calmer dog that can cope being left alone.
  Thunderstorms and Dogs Each year hundreds of dogs escape or injure themselves during thunderstorms. This session is aimed at anyone who owns a dog that is reactive to loud noises; we discuss appropriate management techniques and what you can do to keep your dog safe.
