Muffy finds her way home

Reunited with owners after nine years

The story of Muffy is an extraordinary one to say the least.

Rescued by RSPCA Inspector Gail Coulter after an anonymous tip, she was found sleeping on a tattered piece of cardboard in a filthy backyard where she had spent the last two years of her life.

Muffy was taken to the RSPCA Burwood East Shelter where Vets, Nurses and Animal Attendants worked tirelessly to return her to a healthier state. She was suffering from severe dermatitis caused by a flea allergy, and her matted fur hung limply from her skinny frame.

As part of Muffy’s assessment, a routine microchip scan was undertaken. Much to the surprise of RSPCA staff, Muffy was microchipped. Although the information on the chip was very out of date, staff were able to track down Muffy’s original owners who now lived 2000km away in Queensland.

Muffy had gone missing nine years ago, and where she had spent the years since remains a mystery. 17 year old Chloe Rushby was only eight years old when her best friend Muffy disappeared. Thanks to the generosity of Jet Pets, who have kindly offered to fly Muffy from Melbourne to Brisbane, she can now be reunited with her long lost family and live out the rest of her years with the people who have missed her for so long.

Sadly, animal cruelty is not uncommon. Last year, RSPCA Inspectors investigated a staggering 12,700 reports of animal cruelty in Victoria. Muffy's story is a typical example of just how much work goes into each one of these cases.

Understandably, the costs involved in animal rescues, specialised animal care and rehabilitation all add up. And with the State Government providing only 4% of these costs, we rely almost entirely on the generosity of people like you.

Stories of abuse and neglect are all too familiar to our Inspectors, but with your support many more can end just a happily as Muffy’s. Please, donate today and make a real difference to the life of an animal in need.
