Ban Duck Shooting. It's just not sport.RSPCA has welcomed the decision to cancel the duck hunting season again in 2008. Now we want to see it banned for good. RSPCA Victoria welcomed the decision by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Gavin Jennings to cancel duck hunting season in 2008. RSPCA Victoria President Dr Wirth AM KSJ said, "We are pleased there will be no season in 2008, however we still call on the government and demand a permanent end to the barbaric and unacceptable practice of duck shooting." "In a community which now demands much higher levels of accountability, the continuation of this recreational sport certainly poses questions regarding the moral, ethical and welfare standards set by our State government," Dr Wirth AM KSJ said. Three State Labor Governments have already banned the recreational shooting of native waterbirds, WA in 1990, NSW in 1995 and Queensland in 2005. NSW and Queensland responded to advice from their Animal Welfare Advisory Committees by banning recreational shooting of native waterbirds. Sadly our state government has ignored our own Victorian Animal Welfare Advisory Committees repeated recommendation's to ban duck hunting and instead allocated $200,000 of taxpayers money to try and teach duck shooters to shoot straight. RSPCA Victoria calls on Victorians to demand a total ban on this "sport". People can support the RSPCA by contacting the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Gavin Jennings to voice your opposition to duck hunting.
You can sign our online petition by adding your name, address and email
