Project funding

The RSPCA is very fortunate that the majority of the funding for this final stage of the development has come from bequests that were for the specific purpose of upgrading our facilities. This is a major milestone in RSPCA Victoria’s history and will leave an important legacy for animal welfare for generations to come.

Water

  • WSUD – surface wetland, car-park water collection - irrigation.

  • Subsurface wetland – reuse water for kennel wash-down and irrigation.

  • Rainwater collection from the Animal Welfare Centre extension roof for toilet flushing.

  • Low water consumption fixtures.

  • Low rainfall appropriate planting.

Air conditioning

  • High efficiency mechanical system.

  • Night-purging via 4 level circulation void.

  • Heat recovery ventilation.

Electrical

  • High efficiency fittings & digital control systems.

  • Automatic lighting control – daylight, motion, sound sensors.

  • Single lift – highly visible open stairs to encourage stair use.

  • Solar hot water.

Building

  • Pre-cast concrete cladding (locally produced, locally sourced, recycled content, thermal properties, long lifespan).

  • East-west building orientation.

  • Staff and visitor bike parking.

  • Windows that can be opened on level 1 and 2.
