About Portland

RSPCA Portland opened in 1993. In October, 2006 RSPCA Portland closed the old shelter in Orana Drive and relocated to a new facility at Darts Road, Portland. RSPCA President Dr Hugh Wirth AM KSJ and CEO Maria Mercurio officially opened the new shelter with The Minister for Agriculture, The Hon Bob Cameron.

This brand new shelter provides improved facilities for the animals and also the public who visit the shelter to adopt animals or purchase pet care products from our new retail shop. RSPCA Portland cares for more than 800 unwanted and stray animals each year.

The Portland shop is in the centre of town and helps support the new RSPCA shelter. The shop stocks collars, leads, beds and pet toys along with donated second hand goods that are sold at rock bottom prices. The volunteer staff are a friendly, happy group who are willing to help customers find anything they need. Come in for a chat and help support the animals.

RSPCA Inspectors within the region attend cruelty complaints received from the public. RSPCA Victoria receives more than 9,700 cruelty complaints each year and 46% are from regional Victoria.

Portland Shop
