RSPCA Castlemaine

Midland Animal Welfare joined the RSPCA in 1995.  RSPCA Castlemaine has since provided care to hundreds of stray and abandoned animals annually, including 788 in the past year.

RSPCA Inspectors within the region investigate cruelty complaints reported by the community.  RSPCA Victoria receives more than 14,400 cruelty complaints each year and 46% are from regional Victoria.

Adoption Animals

If you are looking for a new pet, RSPCA Castlemaine have lots of dogs and cats needing loving new homes.  View the RSPCA Castlemaine adoption animals and you might just find your new best friend!

Two RSPCA dogs, Cade and Angie (pictured right)  were recently adopted during the Pawfect Match adopt-a-thon in Castlemaine. What a cute pair they make!!

Discount desexing

Residents in the Mt. Alexander Shire have the benefit of discounted cat de-sexing vouchers - $16 for males and $25 for females.  These vouchers are sponsored by the RSPCA, The Mt. Alexander Shire and Vets All Natural. The vouchers are available from the RSPCA Castlemaine Shelter. Apart from the benefit of your cat not producing unwanted litters of kittens, desexing will help your cat lead a longer and healthier life. Please drop in to the shelter to enquire.

As at October 2009, we had sold 283 female cat desexing vouchers and 198 male cat desexing vouchers to pet owners in the Mount Alexander Shire, saving owners at least $100 per cat, and helping to alleviate the problem of unwanted cats and kittens in our area.  Our ongoing campaign is gaining momentum. A stall at the local supermarket saw 14 vouchers sold in one morning!

RSPCA | RSPCA CastlemaineTragically, cat overpopulation and cruelty is a big problem in Victoria, including the Castlemaine region.  This was the scene that greeted our Supervisor one morning recently.  Eight cardboard boxes and a single  two litre bottle of milk, discarded outside the shelter gate, indeed right outside the empty night cages, with some boxes very close to the road. Inside the boxes were 17 terrified cats.

Despite our best efforts and the sale of hundreds of desexing vouchers in our Shire, such sad occurrences still seem to happen on a far too regular basis.  Please support our shelter so we can continue spreading the word about animal welfare in our region.

Volunteering

RSPCA Castlemaine relies on the support of dedicated volunteers to help it care for all creatures great and small.  Right now we urgently need someone to help on the weekend.  If you have some free weekend time and love animals, please call or drop in to enquire.
